Collab Class: Pottery & Weaving (Open to All /18+)

Program is Full
This class is open to all adults over 18, no prerequisite or experience is required.

Create a unique clay and coiled fiber vessel in this beautiful collaboration of nature and pottery, led by 577 Horticulturist Samantha Day and Pottery Manager & Ceramic Artist Julie Beutler.

In the first session, Julie will guide you in creating your ceramic base using slab-building techniques. You’ll add holes around the edges for weaving, explore interesting textures to decorate your piece, and choose a gorgeous glaze color. Your base will stay with Julie for firing and glazing.

A couple of weeks later, you’ll return for your weaving session with Samantha. She’ll show you how to wax thread and a needle to coil grasses on the edge of your ceramic base, then weave upward to complete your vessel.

Two days of creativity and fun — no prior clay or weaving experience needed! You’ll leave with a stunning, one-of-a-kind treasure that blends the best of both worlds.

577 Staff Instructors: Julie Beutler, 577 Pottery Manager & Ceramic Artist & Samantha Day, 577 Organic Garden Horticulturist

Julie is a member of the Education team at 577. A gifted artist and teacher, she leads all things related to pottery and ceramics: classes, kilns (electric, wood, and raku), glazes, and clay recycling. Her creativity in the studio knows no boundaries and has students trying new techniques and projects every day, giving everyone the chance to play with clay.

Samantha is the Organic Garden Horticulturist at 577. Her background includes a master’s degree in Soil Science, which spurred her initial interests in topics like geomorphology. She has worked for organic farms in the US learning the ins and outs of vegetable production. She also worked in permaculture & semi-wild food systems in Nepal learning traditional, unmechanized methods from subsistence village farmers. Her passion is understanding the relationship between, and benefits of, both historical and innovative techniques for growing and harvesting food. She believes in deep observation of nature to inform a balanced garden, and a balanced being.

REFUND POLICY:

Important Considerations: As a small non-profit organization, we strive to keep class sizes small and affordable. Please only register for classes you will be able to attend, and reserve cancellations for emergencies and illnesses. Even with the waitlist that we offer for most classes, when you cancel out of a class, the other excited potential participants may have made other plans because the class is full.

This refund policy was established to honor 577's Instructors, to respect the time and energy they invest in preparing for each class, and to encourage class participants to weigh their class registrations carefully and in balance with other potential participants.

If you choose to withdraw from a class, the refund policies are as follows:

Refund via the Original Method of Payment ~ Credit Card, Cash, or Check*:
>>> 100% refund with seven (7) or more days’ notice prior to the start of class, less a 5% administrative fee.
>>> No refunds will be given for cancellation six (6) days prior to the start of class. Exception: If we can fill your spot with another participant, you may elect to receive a 100% refund, less a 5% administrative fee.

Refund via Household Credit to use on another class at a future date*:
>>> 100% refund as a Household Credit with seven (7) or more days’ notice prior to the start of class.
>>> No refunds will be given for cancellations six (6) days prior to the start of class. Exception: If we can fill your spot with another participant, you may elect to receive a 100% refund via Household Credit.

*Exceptions may be made to this policy in extreme circumstances. Please contact us to discuss options for cancellation in the event of illness or emergency.

**Once a refund is processed as a Household Credit, you may not request a refund via a credit card, cash, or check at a later date.

Donations: In lieu of a refund, you may request your registration fee be donated back to 577 to support future educational programming and a scholarship fund designed to make classes available to all.
