Join Nigel Burgoine, former principal ballet dancer with the London Festival Ballet (now English National Ballet) and award-winning artistic director, as he gives insight into touring the world with a professional ballet company. Backstage and onstage hysterical and hair-raising situations in performances!

Community Author & Guest: Nigel Burgoine

Nigel Burgoine is a classical ballet instructor and choreographer. He is a graduate of the Royal Ballet School and a former Principal Dancer with the London Festival Ballet. Burgoine has danced around the world in Australia, Brazil, Africa, China, and throughout Europe. He danced principal roles in Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, Giselle, Nutcracker, and Romeo & Julie,t to name a few. He is the past Artistic Director of Toledo Ballet and Cincinnati Ballet, as well as the past Director of the British Ballet Organization. Burgoine implemented education programs for companies and communities throughout the world. Burgoine has choreographed productions of Nutcracker, Cinderella, Giselle, Romeo and Juliet, Swan Lake, Carmen, Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, Coppelia, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, Ugly Duckling, Little Mermaid, Snow Queen, Jungle Book, The Great Pancake Escape, Snow White, Pinocchio, Meema the Lemur Becomes a Ballerina, Midsummer Night’s Dream, and A Night Before Christmas At the Museum. In 2020, Burgoine was the recipient of the Ohio Governor’s Award for the Arts in Arts Education. He is married to Anne Marie Getz.

Gardens & Grounds: 577’s gardens and grounds include a variety of surfaces and terrain. Areas surrounding the parking lots and buildings include a mixture of concrete, crushed stone, and mulch pathways. Areas closer to the Maumee River are protected by a conservation easement and are predominantly mowed grass. Accessibility throughout the grounds may vary depending on weather conditions, particularly following periods of rain.

Historic Buildings: The Geodesic Biodome, Bee Room, and Welcome Center & Curiosity Shop have accessible entrances. Virginia’s House has a large step at the front entrance; however, accessible entrances are available at the back of the house and can be reached by following the path around the building. Due to their historic nature, the Cottage and Log House have steps at their entrances and are not currently wheelchair accessible.

Because space is limited, we ask participants to register thoughtfully and review our registration, cancellation, refund, accessibility, accommodation, and illness policies before completing registration.

Registration & Seating: This free event has limited seating and is for registered participants only. We’re likely not able to accommodate additional guests who are not registered.
